Make a Decision - Hot or Cold

Greetings everyone,

I pray that you and your family are well.  I also want to thank people like Renita Pickett, Charlie Wells Sr., Abe Wells, John Wells, Jesse Wells, Louis Wells, Welton Dufour, David Enos, my ASAC 4-95 class (David Willis, Tom Romero, LaKeshia Swatrz, Paul Oberle, etc) and  many other service men and women who sacrificed their lives in order for people like me to serve.  This does not mean that they are all deceased, but I think about the hard work my wife and family members and colleagues endured for our ability to worship Christ.  I am eternally grateful.

Over the years I have gained knowledge, discernment, and the ability to acknowledge, my faults, sins and learned the importance of repentance.  I am full of so much joy, emotions and words that I would like to share with you regarding the Word of God.  However, I believe that based on the times, we need to stop sugar coating what's happening around us and accept that the devil is trying his best to move in on God’s territory.

I am sure that today alone, you have witnessed the advance and villainous acts of ISIS, the number of deaths, non-police related, that Baltimore over the weekend,  the actions which occurred in Cleveland, OH, and the weather patterns in and around Texas.  We have to recognize and admit, that although you desire to search for a human answer to these things and you are looking for someone to blame, STOP!  It is time that we take God at His Word and pay attention, humanism is not the answer, neither is any other "ism". These things can not get you to eternal life and they cannot save you from death. "6 Jesus replied, a “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. b No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too. a And from now on you do know him and have seen him.” (NET_LM)"

It is the above verses from John14:6-7, that will separate the "Wheat from the chaff", verses such as these have and will continue to divide man from each other and those who believe in Christ. To the Church of Laodicea, Jesus told John to write the following letter. Please read the scriptures below:

Book: Revelations Chapter 3; According to "Insight for Living.org", Who wrote the book? The author of Revelation mentioned his name, John, four times throughout the book (Revelation 1:1, 4, 9; 22:8). Christians throughout history have given almost unanimous affirmation to the identity of the book’s author as John the apostle, who had been exiled to the island of Patmos by the authorities for preaching the gospel in Asia. Some traditions say that the Romans dropped John into a vat of boiling oil, but when the apostle did not die, they instead banished him to the barren rock of Patmos. The title of the book, Revelation, comes from the Greek word for apocalypse and refers to an unveiling or a disclosure of something as yet unknown. This title is certainly appropriate for the book, a work so interested in making known the events of the future.

Where are we? The apostle John wrote the book of Revelation around the year AD 95 from his exile on the island of Patmos. He addressed his work to seven Asian churches—Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Because John worked in Ephesus for so many of his later years, it would have been natural for him to communicate this vision to the churches under his immediate care and influence. Each of those seven churches received a message directed specifically to them (chapters 2 and 3) before John launched into his account of the future which he received in his vision from God.

Why is Revelation so important? The book of Revelation provides the clearest biblical portrait of the events of the tribulation, dealing with the specifics of that terrible time (chapters 4–18). The tribulation will be a time of judgment, a time when those left on the earth after the rapture will suffer deeply for their nonbelief. John pictured this judgment as a series of twenty-one events—inaugurated by the breaking of seven seals, the blowing of seven trumpets, and the pouring out of seven bowls. This grand judgment on the sinfulness of humanity shows the seriousness with which God views sin—payment will be exacted from those not covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Revelations  3: 14- 22; 14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write the following: “This is the solemn pronouncement of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator of Gods creation:15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot! 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth! 17 Because you say, “I am rich and have acquired great wealth, and need nothing,” but do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked, 18 take my advice and buy gold from me refined by fire so you can become rich! Buy from me white clothing so you can be clothed and your shameful nakedness will not be exposed, and buy eye salve to put on your eyes so you can see! 19 All those I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent! 20 Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me. 21 I will grant the one who conquers permission to sit with me on my throne, just as I too conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Matthew Henry Commentary:  Revelation 3 - Vs. 14- 22. Laodicea was the last and worst of the seven churches of Asia. Here our Lord Jesus styles himself, "The Amen;" one steady and unchangeable in all his purposes and promises. If religion is worth anything, it is worth every thing. Christ expects men should be in earnest. How many professors of gospel doctrine are neither hot nor cold; except as they are indifferent in needful matters, and hot and fiery in disputes about things of lesser moment! A severe punishment is threatened. They would give a false opinion of Christianity, as if it were an unholy religion; while others would conclude it could afford no real satisfaction, otherwise its professors would not have been heartless in it, or so ready to seek pleasure or happiness from the world. One cause of this indifference and inconsistency in religion is, self- conceit and self- delusion; "Because thou sayest." What a difference between their thoughts of themselves, and the thoughts Christ had of them! How careful should we be not to cheat our owns souls! There are many in hell, who once thought themselves far in the way to heaven. Let us beg of God that we may not be left to flatter and deceive ourselves. Professors grow proud, as they become carnal and formal. Their state was wretched in itself. They were poor; really poor, when they said and thought they were rich. They could not see their state, nor their way, nor their danger, yet they thought they saw it. They had not the garment of justification, nor sanctification:they were exposed to sin and shame; their rags that would defile them. They were naked, without house or harbor, for they were without God, in whom alone the soul of man can find rest and safety. Good counsel was given by Christ to this sinful people. Happy those who take his counsel, for all others must perish in their sins. Christ lets them know where they might have true riches, and how they might have them. Some things must be parted with, but nothing valuable; and it is only to make room for receiving true riches. Part with sin and self- confidence, that you may be filled with his hidden treasure. They must receive from Christ the white raiment he purchased and provided for them; his own imputed righteousness for justification, and the garments of holiness and sanctification. Let them give themselves up to his word and Spirit, and their eyes shall be opened to see their way and their end. Let us examine ourselves by the rule of his word, and pray earnestly for the teaching of his Holy Spirit, to take away our pride, prejudices, and worldly lusts. Sinners ought to take the rebukes of God's word and rod, as tokens of his love to their souls. Christ stood without; knocking, by the dealings of his providence, the warnings and teaching of his word, and the influences of his Spirit. Christ still graciously, by his word and Spirit, comes to the door of the hearts of sinners. Those who open to him shall enjoy his presence. If what he finds would make but a poor feast, what he brings will supply a rich one. He will give fresh supplies of graces and comforts. In the conclusion is a promise to the overcoming believer. Christ himself had temptations and conflicts; he overcame them all, and was more than a conqueror. Those made like to Christ in his trials, shall be made like to him in glory. All is closed with the general demand of attention. And these counsels, while suited to the churches to which they were addressed, are deeply interesting to all men.

Family, we have some choices to make.People from both sides, conservative and liberal will have you believe that political correctness and tolerance is the answer, some would also have you believe that there is no wrong or wright. They are concerned about feelings and that people should have the right to do whatever they want and love whoever they want. This is great as long as no one gets hurt.  Freedom is more important than a relationship with Christ.  I pray that you chose Christ. I want to leave this discussion open and let the Word of God linger with you. I pray that one day we can start a dialogue and face the truth.

Are we doing are part?

Greetings family,
Today/Tonight/Tomorrow or whenever you get this message, I am truly excited, honored and blessed for the past two weeks God has allowed me to experience.   I am not trying to bragg by any means, but God is awesome! Beginning with Mother's Day, as some of you may have seen my comments on my mom and my wife; I could not have asked for a better gift.  To be able to begin that day with a sermon on the level of emphasis God places on mother's,  grandmother and great grandmother's.  Our Pastor Lon Solomon, from McLean Bible Church gave an awesome sermon, which I summarized below:

In Phillipians 2:19-22, he spoke on Timothy's character.  He went on to explain how 2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15 - Showed how his direct influence derived from grandmother Lois and mother Eunice, who helped Timothy in Godly development.  Furthermore,  Pastor Lon stated Mother's must make a spiritual impact on their children and those they come in contact with . He followed with four key things mothers must do:

1. Cultivate a child's spiritual life - Isaiah 55:11, Psalm 119:9, 11 (Awana Programs)

2. Place children squarely in God's path

3. Be the most Christ like example you can be - 1Corinthians 11:1 Be committed in your faith

4. Be a prayer warrior James 5:16b - 18; Power of prayer is never greater than when a mother is praying for her children; Acts 6:4 - Apostles gave themselves to prayer.

My week continued with on Monday, May 11, I attended the  2015 RISE Christian Police Conference, in Haymarket, VA, in honor of 2015 Police Week. http://www.virginiaspositivehits.org/events/2015-national-police-week-rise-christian-police-conference/ (Event has passed - background)

I spent a full day of awesome fellowship and praise worship, with a host of brothers and sisters in Christ, who devote their lives everyday to Serve and Protect. With Christ as their priority,  it was clear to see that Christ was in the midst of the event.  I had never experienced something that amazing amidst my fellow colleagues. In our current society, it is truly difficult to share Christ with others, not only with the public, but your co-workers. Many agencies and departments, have all but outlawed public display of Christianity,  but have made it their cause to ensure LGTB month is honored along side, Black and Hispanic American History month. Somehow sexual orientation and political correctness has become the flavor of the month.

Anyway, I learned that when in the midst of chaos, the devil finds a way to distract everyone.  Who knew that God's grace would have spread to such a great group of people.  Through these people and this event, we had a chance to hear the Word, and understand that each of us had a purpose. Not only to do our jobs as members of the law enforcement community, but to lead our families, co-workers, and those we come in contact with to Christ. We learned how to ask Christ for the ability to spot an opportunity to share and spread the Gospel. We learned that being a good LEO, doesn’t guarantee one a position in heaven.

Specifically we shared a prayer not only for the public servants of cities like, Baltimore,  Chicago, New York, and Ferguson, but we prayed for the citizens of these cities.  What we truly learned was that in spite of the media hype, social media marketing, and lack of knowledge on the part of the everyday citizens; the problem is and has not been race, sex, or political. The problem is sin, the lack of a relationship with Christ and the lack of families and moral development.

Finally, the final blessing I wanted to share, was during these last few days while dealing with a bout of the flu,  my wife and I experienced two wonderful films called "The Ecounter". These are two films, describing different encounters, where several strangers end up together meeting Jesus Christ.   I am not going to spoil it for you,  but I guarantee that they were two awesome films.

I am sure you are wondering where this is going and how God’s message fits the above story line. What I learned in each of these events was the importance of placing Christ first in your family and that without Him history has shown that societies have fallen and the people have suffered. As example consider the following (Due to the length of these chapters I won't list them in their entirety):

Book: 2 Kings
Verses: Chapter 24 - 25
Author:The Book of 2 Kings does not name its author. The tradition is that the prophet Jeremiah was the author of both 1 and 2 Kings.
Date of Writing:The Book of 2 Kings, along with 1 Kings, was likely written between 560 and 540 B.C.
Purpose of Writing:The Book of 2 Kings is a sequel to the Book of 1 Kings. It continues the story of the kings over the divided kingdom (Israel and Judah.) The Book of 2 Kings concludes with the final overthrow and deportation of the people of Israel and Judah to Assyria and Babylon, respectively.
Key Verses:2 Kings 17:7-8: "All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods and followed the practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced."

Jehoiakims Reign over Judah
1 During Jehoiakims reign, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked. Jehoiakim was his subject for three years, but then he rebelled against him. 2 The Lord sent against him Babylonian, Syrian, Moabite, and Ammonite raiding bands; he sent them to destroy Judah, as he had warned he would do through his servants the prophets. 3 Just as the Lord had announced, he rejected Judah because of all the sins which Manasseh had committed. 4 Because he killed innocent people and stained Jerusalem with their blood, the Lord was unwilling to forgive them. 5 The rest of the events of Jehoiakims reign and all his accomplishments, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah. 6 He passed away and his son Jehoiachin replaced him as king. 7 The king of Egypt did not march out from his land again, for the king of Babylon conquered all the territory that the king of Egypt had formerly controlled between the Brook of Egypt and the Euphrates River.

Jehoiachins Reign over Judah
8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan, from Jerusalem. 9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord as his ancestors had done.

Matthew Henry Commentary: 2 Kings 24: Vs. 1- 7. If Jehoiakim had served the Lord, he had not been servant to Nebuchadnezzar. If he had been content with his servitude, and true to his word, his condition had been no worse; but, rebelling against Babylon, he plunged himself into more trouble. See what need nations have to lament the sins of their fathers, lest they smart for them. Threatenings will be fulfilled as certainly as promises, if the sinner's repentance prevent not. Vs. 8- 20. Jehoiachin reigned but three months, yet long enough to show that he justly smarted for his fathers 'sins, for he trod in their steps. His uncle was entrusted with the government. This Zedekiah was the last of the kings of Judah. Though the judgments of God upon the three kings before him might have warned him, he did that which was evil, like them. When those entrusted with the counsels of a nation act unwisely, and against their true interest, we ought to notice the displeasure of God in it. It is for the sins of a people that God hides from them the things that belong to the public peace. And in fulfilling the secret purposes of his justice, the Lord needs only leave men to the blindness of their own minds, or to the lusts of their own hearts. The gradual approach of Divine judgments affords sinners space for repentance, and believers leisure to prepare for meeting the calamity, while it shows the obstinacy of those who will not forsake their sins.

There are several ways we could approach theses scriptures, from parallels to the current state of the Middle East, the current economic times in Africa, or the current social decay of America. However, I mainly want to focus on the human race as a whole.  For centuries we have encountered one failure after another when it comes to maintaining a stable and prosperous society. Since the "Fall of Man", we have been in a rut.  Many people disagree with scripture and they feel the Bible is to rigid and has no room for tolerance. I believe tolerance is the wrong word. Based on my understanding of the Word, the Bible emphasizes love, forgiveness, turning away from sin, repentance, Christ's sacrifice on the cross, God’s mercy, and so much more.  But, tolerance is not one of them, at least in the worldly sense. This behavior is not new, we continue to repeat our behavior and God is so tired of our mess. If you desire to have a changed life and eternal life with joy, you must accept Christ as your personal Savior.  You will have to recognize that people will scoff at you for your decision and persecution is automatically included.  But know that you will be changed and your life will be guided by someone who loves you dearly.

Our society has gone through a series of changes. But, if you consider each culture and compare it to the Israelites of the Old Testament. We continue to repeat the same sinful patterns. Even today, we have a vast majority of people who idolize one thing or another, many refuse to believe in God, many boldly express their hatred of God and refusal to believe Christ rose from the dead.  Finally, although we have freewill, we have taken it to a degree that is beyond comprehension.  We have no respect for authority and education is not part of the planet's future. We must place Christ first,  we must acknowledge His grace and mercy.

What's in a Name?

Greetings everyone,

I hope this as past messages, finds you, your family, and friends doing well.

This message is a doosie!   Last night my family and I spent time together and went to see a movie. Upon departing the movie, we held and intriguing conversation.  I won’t provide you with the name of the film.

The discussion surrounded several of the statements in the movie, which appeared to have Biblical reference.  Specifically, the statement that struck my wife and I, was when one of the characters was asked to identify himself, the character began with who he was not. He then stated the following, “I am”… “I am, I am.”

Obviously, that struck my wife and I as odd.  Recognizing it was a movie, we considered as part of Hollywood’s (Satan), continued plan to lessen or minimize the power of God.  No, I know what some of you maybe thinking; we are reading too much into this.  Here is where the story got interesting.  Our youngest son, who is very intelligent and has some basic to intermediate knowledge of Biblical doctrine, totally disagreed with us.

Our son also thought we were totally reaching and felt that at no way did the statement or the movie make any attempt to demoralize Christianity (Which we never thought or stated).  He stated that if it had an affect on anyone, it was because his or her faith was weak. He did not believe that anyone cared about what was said.  Mainly because in the comic book (many years ago), it was already said and people going to the movie new what to expect.

Before I continue, please see the scriptures and commentary below.  I will make additional comments there after and you can comment as you please.

Book:    Exodus

Author:  According to Insight.org, “As with Genesis, early Jewish traditions name Moses as the most likely and best qualified person to have authored Exodus. This theory is supported by a number of factors. Moses’s unique education in the royal courts of Egypt certainly provided him the opportunity and ability to pen these works (Acts 7:22).”

Time:     According to Insight.org, “The book covers a period of approximately eighty years, from shortly before Moses’s birth (c. 1526 BC) to the events that occurred at Mount Sinai in 1446 BC.”

Purpose:  According to Insight.org, “The title “Exodus” comes from the Septuagint, which derived it from the primary event found in the book, the deliverance from slavery and “exodus” or departure of the Israelite nation out of Egypt by the hand of Yahweh, the God of their forefathers.”

“In Exodus we witness God beginning to fulfill His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Though the children of Israel were enslaved in a foreign land, God miraculously and dramatically delivered them to freedom. He then established Israel as a theocratic nation under His covenant with Moses on Mount Sinai. The ten plagues, the Passover, the parting of the Red Sea, the fearsome majesty of God’s presence at Mount Sinai, the giving of the Ten Commandments, the building of the tabernacle . . . these events from Exodus are foundational to the Jewish faith. And they provide crucial background context to help future readers of Scripture understand the entire Bible’s message of redemption. The frequency of references to Exodus by various biblical writers, and even Jesus’s own words, testify to its importance.”

Exodus 3: 11-15;

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

12 So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”

14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 1

15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

Matthew Henry Commentary – Exodus 3:11-15 - 2. He desires instructions what answer to give them: “What shall I say to them? What name shall I vouch to them for the proof of my authority? I must have something great and extraordinary to say to them; what must it be? If I must go, let me have full instructions, that I may not run in vain.” Note, (1.) It highly concerns those who speak to people in the name of God to be well prepared beforehand. (2.) Those who would know what to say must go to God, to the word of his grace and to the throne of his grace, for instructions, Ezek. 2:7; 3:4, 10, 17. (3.) Whenever we have any thing to do with God, it is desirable to know, and our duty to consider, what is his name.

IV. God readily gives him full instructions in this matter. Two names God would now be known by:—

1. A name that denotes what he is in himself (Exod. 3:14): I am that I am. This explains his name Jehovah, and signifies, (1.) That he is self-existent; he has his being of himself, and has no dependence upon any other: the greatest and best man in the world must say, By the grace of God I am what I am; but God says absolutely—and it is more than any creature, man or angel, can say—I am that I am. Being self-existent, he cannot but be self-sufficient, and therefore all-sufficient, and the inexhaustible fountain of being and bliss. (2.) That he is eternal and unchangeable, and always the same, yesterday, to-day, and for ever; he will be what he will be and what he is; see Rev 1:8.

Three other verses came up when I began researching this issue:

- John 14:6 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

- John 15:5 (NKJV) “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

- John 8:59 (NKJV) Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

As I stated this issue became intriguing.  As our son hammered home his side of the argument, my wife and I tried to explain to him how Satan works.  We went on to explain that direct evil does not work on everyone.  Satan figured out long ago that subtlety was the best way to separate or distract man’s relationship with God.  We went on to explain how since the beginning of time, Satan has been able to place a small sliver in society to use tolerance and acceptance to destroy a society.  On a daily basis, Hollywood, television, media, social media, etc., pushes through every medium possible, that we should be more accepting.  Everything that was once considered immoral or illegal is okay.  It’s those crazy religious people who are wrong.  Everyone should just coexist.  Fortunately for us we have Jesus Christ on our side.

Well the discussion went into overtime when I went to Exodus.  As we tried to explain that with a stronger relationship comes wisdom and discernment.  In the past we too would have not caught on to the statement and went about our ways.  He still was not buying our argument.  My wife then used the recent movie Noah (Paramount Picture 2014) and Exodus as an example of how Hollywood and Satan uses Biblical stories to move you further away from God.  If you recall the director of Noah, Darren Aronofsky an acknowledged atheist stated in an April 2014 interview in the Telegraph, a UK newspaper or magazine, “The problems arose because the studio were trying to serve religious literalists,” says Aronofsky. “Because there is a big part of the population in America who don’t want anything to contradict their view of the Bible, and are never going to be open to this type of interpretation.”

For him, the Noah story is something metaphorical and mythic, a beautiful fiction that points towards truth, rather than simply reporting it.

“To argue about it as if it was a historical event is ridiculous. Which, by the way, goes for atheists, too – the people who do the math and say, ‘Well, all of the animal kingdom couldn’t fit into one boat.’ The whole conversation is ridiculous.”

Additionally, Aronofsky made every effort to ensure the name of God was never mentioned in the film.  Our son then acknowledged that this movie was not scripturally correct as they spoke about at his (former) Christian school.  He went on to repeat that anyone with a strong relationship with Christ would have easily figured this out.  But we explained that this was the point.  The uninformed Christian, especially non-Christian would even catch such blatant, but hidden agenda.  Again, this is how Satan strikes.

My son went on to state that he did not see Satan in this issue.  Additionally, he felt that free will and sin was a product of man.  He was under the impression that sin would have been around whether Satan was or not.  He used the behavior of man during prohibition (1920s), the Awakening (end of 19th Century), and even the Puritans (17th Century).  He expressed how man has always continued his unethical and sinful ways. Even more, he believed that man created sin from his wrong choice to disobey God in the Garden of Eden.  We went on to explain that sin is being disobedient to God’s will; this activity began with Satan and his cohort’s fall from grace (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12-18).  Then Satan took his sinful nature and shared it with Eve in a manner that was so cunning, that to her it had to be ok (Genesis 3:1-5).  She too saw no harm in being equal to God.

In the end I left this with our son. In your time, things may seem fine.  However, as you grow closer to God (if you choose to do so), the scales on your eyes will be removed (Isaiah 44:18; Acts 9:18).  This may be the same for you.  You don’t have to take my word for it.  The world today is changing.  In our time on earth more and more things are becoming acceptable and there is less emphasis on Christian, political, parental, social, and personal responsibility. Everything has morphed to the concerns of ones feelings and less logic.  Christ will return and I can only pray that you are ready, willing, and able to take up your cross in His Holy Name.
