Make a Decision and a Difference

Ok ladies and gentlemen,

Let's first give honor to God for providing us with a Savior, Jesus Christ.

On Veteran's Day, I sent out a text to some friends and family members regarding my thanks for thier service, whether past or present,  I wanted to take a moment to thank them. I then went on to share a small statement from a WW II veteran, Reverend William T Cummings, who stated that "There are no atheistic fox holes." This same statement was later used by President Eisenhower and many others since. I say all this, because it is time for you or whomever this message touches, to wake up.  The events in France and the Middle East, should be an alarm ringing without a snooze or shutoff button.  For many of you the events surrounding Beau Bergdahl (sp), Bengahazi, Bradley Manning, and Edward Snowden, may either mean nothing, you are uninformed, or naively believe that it doesn't effect you. Unfortunately, you are sadly mistaken. The devil has been busy and sending his minions to keep you in the dark with "Black Lives Matter", the protests at the colleges, and removing the criminalization of Marijuana, to just to name a few. I am not saying the some of these issues are not important to discuss, but remember you live in a free society,  one that in spite of the prejudice and unkind words or actions that may come your way, there are people who spend 24 hours a day defending your right to protest. While many believe the government should provide free this or that, enforce $15 an hour wages, there are people who leave their families for months at a time, some never to see them again,  so that you have the right to ask for this stuff.

See, the attackers in France, Islamic Extremist, and other Terrorist, don't care if someone calls you a name or disagrees with you. Remember the only safe space they plan to provide you is a coffin!! Remember if you tried to protest with same issues in other countries, would they let you, many of them would not allow it. So, I will say this, if you and the Lord are not on a first name basis and you have not developed a true relationship with Christ, when he returns, you are going to have a problem.

Secondly,  I recognize that the knowledge and experience that I and many of my colleagues have experienced may not allow you to understand where I am coming from but know this, "FREEDOM ISN'T FREE ", and you need to take your head out of the 60s, because this ain't it. Figure out what is your gift and use it to God’s glory,  while finding a way to defend our right to be free from all tyranny and oppression

Great Parents

9/25/2015 – Thank You for Being Great Parents!

Greetings everyone,

I would like to apologize for my absence. I have been going through quite a bit. I have been having a hard time adjusting to my mother being gone. Although I have a great support group, awesome wife, children, Dad, and siblings, God has been my anchor. I recently joined a group at my church called Grief Share. This group has been extremely helpful and has allowed me to reach out to some of my old colleagues and friends from the past.

This past weekend was my mom’s 73rd birthday. We each attempted celebrate and deal with her loss in our own special way. However, I am sure that my dad took it the hardest. I love him so much and I have always saw him as my hero, for what he has done to keep us together and to teach my brother and I how to be men.

This brought me to the Word and how God always has a message within each situation. Therefore, I will be taking words from one of my study Bible’s and sharing it with you. I pray that the information is received within your heart and God’s word stirs you to act.

From the New Student Bible (NKJV):

Book: Proverbs

Year Written: Sometime around 900 BC

Author: King Solomon

Purpose: According to gotquestions.org, “Knowledge is nothing more than an accumulation of raw facts, but wisdom is the ability to see people, events, and situations as God sees them. In the Book of Proverbs, Solomon reveals the mind of God in matters high and lofty and in common, ordinary, everyday situations, too. It appears that no topic escaped King Solomon's attention. Matters pertaining to personal conduct, sexual relations, business, wealth, charity, ambition, discipline, debt, child-rearing, character, alcohol, politics, revenge, and godliness are among the many topics covered in this rich collection of wise sayings.”

Proverbs is often considered a Father’s Guidance Book. “Its education prepares you for the street and the marketplace, not the school.” “…Fifteen times the father voice says, “My son”.”

Prov. 1:8 (NIV) – Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

Prov. 6:20 (NIV) - My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

“The overwhelming emphasis of Proverbs is on verbal encouragement and teaching. The whole book is framed as a father’s words to his son, teaching him those “facts of life” that have nothing to do with biology.” Consider Prov. 17:6 (NIV) Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children. Basically, this explains that “parents and children are not meant to be adversaries, but allies in life who are proud of each other.”

As I reflect on my mother and how she emphasized the importance of having God in our lives, I am truly grateful. She often quoted Prov. 22:6(NIV) - Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. She also quoted Prov. 13: 24 (NIV) - Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them; and Prov. 29:15 (NIV) - A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.

I won’t burden you in my first return with the details from Matthew Henry’s Commentary, but if you journey to https://www.biblegateway.com/. You will be able to connect to the commentaries for yourself. However, to save time, I will be honest. My mother ensured that she whooped our butts and made sure that we attended church as often as possible. I truly believe that had it not been for the reproof and instruction from my parents. I would not have been able to accept the Lord and his grace. I definitely would not be where I am today.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I have a deep hole in my heart. I miss my mom dearly and I love my dad beyond words. God has provided a double portion of blessings, my mother is in heaven and my dad is hear with us continuing to teach us while strengthening his walk with the Lord, so that they both will be together in heaven.

I pray that God richly blesses you and your family.

In a World of Chaos, Where do you Fit?

Greetings family,

I pray that your week has been a blessed one and that you have had time to spend with God this week.

This week has not been hectic or traumatic in anyway, but I have noticed that during the quiet times I find myself thinking of my mother and my brother in their absence. People often ask how I am doing or do I know that my mom is in a better place and that I will see her again soon. I personally have no doubt that I will see both she and my brother again soon.  Granted where they spend eternity is not up to me. That decision belongs to the Lord. Now, do I wish that they experience eternity with Christ,  of course I do, and that is all I can do. However, I can ensure that while I still remain here, I can do my part to share God's Word with others and do my best to address my own salvation through Christ our Lord.

I bring this up, because daily as I go through my studies and I am immediately in battle with the world,  whether it's with my boys (who are also part of the current culture), my vocation,  the news and the everyday people I interact with. Please let's not forget the state of our nation.

This is not one of those doom and gloom messages, this is just meant to get you to think. Earlier this week brother Brandon Payne mentioned his disappointment with the current postings on Facebook and how users have failed to take advantage of this great resource for the advancement of our people and nation.

Scripture teaches that we have a responsibility not only to our government ("Whether the Bible uses the terms “master,” “ruler,” “government,” or any other name for an established authority, the instruction is always the same – obey. We must remember that God created the authorities ruling over us just as He created us. As Paul wrote to the Romans, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves” (Romans 13:1-2). Peter wrote, “Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right” (1 Peter 2:13-14). Both Peter and Paul also remind slaves repeatedly to be obedient to their masters for the same reasons (Ephesians 6:5-8; Colossians 3:22-25; 1 Timothy 6:1-2; 1 Peter 2:18-20; Titus 2:9-11)") excerpt from - http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-government.html

Also, we have a responsibility to govern ourselves in a manner that gives honor to God in all that we do. - (1 Cor. 10:31; So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.- English Standard Version) (Matthew Henry Commentary : According to this advice of the apostle, Christians should take care not to use their liberty to the hurt of others, or to their own reproach. In eating and drinking, and in all we do, we should aim at the glory of God, at pleasing and honoring him. This is the great end of all religion, and directs us where express rules are wanting. A holy, peaceable, and benevolent spirit, will disarm the greatest enemies.)

I believe that this is our greatest problem, if we first understand what the Word is trying to say in this manner, it would be easier to put to practice.

1. The Rich Man and Lazarus - Luke 16:19-31
Time to accept Christ may be short. Jesus Christ himself,  explained to His disciples that many will not believe until it is to late.

2. Christ's Example of Humility - Phillipians 2:1-11
Christ gave His life for you! What more do you need, to believe?

3. Accepting Christ, makes you a new creature (change your life and actions) -2 Corinthians 5:17 New King James Version (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

4. The Bible teaches we must separate ourselves from this world and have Faith in Christ - Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (This is difficult for us and our children,  the world of sin is much more intriguing,  full of freedom, no boundaries. It is this world that fools us into thinking we have time.)

5. Job - explained how God brought him in the world and can take him out. - Job 1:21 King James Version21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.  - The blessing of family and the tragic loss of family, can still end in giving glory to God. - According to GotQuestions.Org "The Book of Job teaches us to trust God under all circumstances. We must trust God, not only WHEN we do not understand, but BECAUSE we do not understand. The psalmist tells us, “As for God, His way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30)." http://www.gotquestions.org/Book-of-Job.html

6. With love and faith in Christ, our lives are restored and Jesus went to prepare a place for us.- John 14:1-14;

- I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life - Verse 14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going." - Excerpt from Insight for Living http://daily.insight.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=13299

As you can see the scriptures in this message were not as long as usual. This particular message is surrounding a series of areas, from loss of a loved one,  dealing with today's culture and changing your life once accepting Christ.

I know that many of you have experienced Job-like issues in your own lives, and it is/are these events which either bring you closer to God or further away.  You are definitely not alone.  Just because someone may be farther along in their walk with the Lord, it does not negate the fact that they may also be struggling with the relationship with Him.

At the end of the day, and you walk past a mirror; whether in your home, at a store or anywhere in a public place take a moment to look at yourself, are you happy with your current status?  Is there someone or something really holding you back from success or are you the obstacle to reaching your goals. Christ is waiting on you.

Message for 8-4-15 (Revelation on Freedom)

Greetings,

Brother and Sisters, believers and non-believers, those on the fence, and the lukewarm believers, I hope this message finds you in good health and continuing on a path to developing a right relationship with Christ.

Initially I was planning to write to you regarding the book of Romans. This has been part of my study, which started last week. I am also still in the book of Psalms, but, it is a good pathway that has helped me learn how to understand the importance of both the Old and New Testament.

Well, as God would have it, he had a better plan and information that he wanted to get out to you. Again, I preference my writings with stating I am not a preacher, I am not perfect and the Word I proclaim is not my own. You have every right to challenge what I say and search the scriptures for yourself. Prayerfully that is my aim, that you may find a personal relationship with Christ.

As you know my family and I are parishioners at McLean Bible Church, McLean, VA (McLeanBible.org). In the spring of 2014, our Pastor Lon Solomon, completed an 18-part series, titled a “Bible Survey”. I routinely listen to the series because it is an amazing breakdown of the books of the Bible that not only take you on a tour of history, but also allows you to understand how to apply it to your life. Additionally, it answers many questions that not only I have asked, but also I am sure you have asked the same or similar questions.

I plan to take items from his message today because; I was guided to listen to this message four times today. Each time I heard different messages that either were for me or reassured some of the choices I made in my life, to get me closer to Christ. I pray that you take a look at the words I mention and/or take a moment to listen to his message (hopefully more than once).

The message was titled “Bible Survey, part 8 – The New Testament The Epistles (Galatians, part 2) “Limiting Our Freedom in Christ” (https://www.mcleanbible.org/sermons/galatians-limiting-our-freedom-christ-0)

This message was part of a two-part sermon on the book of Galatians. According to Pastor Solomon:

1. Paul wrote Galatians in 48 A.D. to the churches he had established on his first missionary journey in southeastern Turkey.

2. Paul’s purpose was to deal with a theological heresy that had crept into these churches – led by a group of false teachers called “Judaizers.”

3. Judaizers’ plan of salvation = “relying on Jesus’ blood + human works.”

4. In the Book of Galatians, Paul defends God’s TRUE plan of salvation as found in the Bible: “relying on
Jesus’ blood + no human works of any kind.”

5. But these Judaizers were also teaching that human works form the foundation of our relationship with
God even AFTER we’re saved.

6. “For through faith in Jesus Christ, you are all sons/daughters of God.” Galatians 3:26
[Therefore, as an adopted child of God] “. . . you are no longer under Law [human performance system with God], but under grace.” Romans 6:14

7. “. . . nothing in creation [even our bad performance] shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:39

8. As a follower of Christ, I can do anything I want without it ever endangering the family bond between me and my Heavenly Father.

9. “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore, stand firm in that freedom and do not let yourself be subjected again to a yoke of bondage [i.e. performance system in relation to God].” Galatians 5:1

10. Biblical Balance:
While it is true that we have this wonderful freedom in Christ – it is just as true that God asks us to “limit” that freedom at certain times and in certain circumstances.

11. “For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh . . .” Galatians 5:13a

Pastor Solomon spoke about six Sieves (Coffee filters) that we should use to guide our “Freedom in Christ” Please see them below and review my comments afterwards.

- If a contemplated action gets caught in one of these six “sieves” – then God is telling me to “limit” my freedom here.

- “All things may be lawful for me, but not all things are profitable.” 1 Corinthians 10:23a

- Just because I have the freedom in Christ to do anything I want without losing God’s love – does not mean that I should!

Sieve #1 – “Is it intrinsically offensive to God [sin]?”

- “As obedient children . . . like the Holy One who called you, be holy in all your behavior. For it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” 1 Peter 1:14-16

- God calls on us to pursue holy behavior in our lives.
When we don’t, God “disciplines” us as His children [Hebrews 12:6].

- And sometimes, God allows the bad consequences of our sinful behavior to come upon us [Galatians 6:7].

Sieve #2 – “Will it harm me physically?”

“. . . your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God. You are not your own, you were bought with a price. Therefore, honor God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

There are lots of things we have freedom in Christ to do – but which will harm our bodies [which are not our property]!

Sieve #3 – “Will it help me spiritually?”

“. . . let us throw off every weight, and the sin that so easily besets us, so we can run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1

God tells us not to load our lives up with “extra weight” spiritually that turns our “race for God” into a “crawl for God.”

“Flee sexual immorality! Every other sin a person does is outside their body; but the person who commits sexual immorality sins against their own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18

Sexual sin wounds both people involved in a special way.

Sieve #4 – “Will it identify me with unrighteous things even though I may not actually be doing anything wrong?”

 “. . . avoid all appearance of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:22

“Do not let your good be evil spoken of.” Romans 14:16

Many times we can exercise some freedom in Christ with a pure heart, but the questions is – “Are we giving off the appearance of evil?”

Sieve #5 – “Will it hurt a fellow believer’s Christian walk?”

“It is not good to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother [sister] to stumble.” Romans 14:21

The mark of a mature follower of Christ is the attitude that says: “I care so much about my fellow Christian’s walk, that I will set aside any freedom I have to – in order not to hurt their walk.”

Sieve #6 – “Will it hurt my platform for evangelism with non-believers?”

“Walk in wisdom when it comes to those who are outsiders . . .” Colossians 4:5

“But I have used none of these rights, lest I hinder the Gospel of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 9:12b

Once we “go public for Jesus Christ” – people start watching us like a hawk.

They have certain expectations as to how a Christian should act – and if we violate them – it will destroy our evangelistic platform with them.

As usual I am sure you are wondering where this is coming from. Over the last several days, I have either witnessed something about myself, people I come across or even members of my family and I question the words I say to them or the actions I portray. Especially the way I interact with my wife and children. Now that my boys are moving into adulthood, I see some similarities in their behavior or characteristics that resemble some of my own actions or that of other people who are or were once in the world. I routinely share with them the results of my actions and how although God forgave me of my sins, I was still required to receive the punishment.

In today’s society it is difficult to understand where people are headed. Initially I used to think it had to do with age or it was a generational thing. I realized that for the most part it is about free will and the Freedom many Believers have in Christ. Those who have not accepted Christ as their personal savior are acting purely on free will, while believers choose take their freedoms to the limit, with the belief that Christ will forgive me no matter what I do. I can only tell you that, you will have to pay for what you do in disobedience to God. You may not even believe any of this, but that day will come when you have to determine whether it is real or fake. For some making lifestyle changes in accordance to the “Six Sieve’s above may be difficult. However, you will have to decide whether you soul or that of another is worth it. I would suggest that each of us examine our current situations and run our lives through these filters to determine what needs to be changed. It may convict you, but in the end, this will save your life.

I pray that God keeps you and covers you in His grace. May God richly bless you.

Message for week 7-28-15

Hello everyone,

Well another glorious week has past and God willing, a new one was on the way. However, it is now the middle of the week and this is just going out. As you can see, I continue to struggle with timeliness in preparing and sharing the Word of the Lord. I allow distractions to interupt my responsibility. Please forgive me.

This week I would like to give out a few thankyou's to a few brothers who checked up on me and my family to see how we are doing. Patrick Davis, Antoine Drake, Carlton Jones and Eugene Choi. With it only being just over a month ago for the passing of my mother, I appreciate these brothers looking out for us. I humbly admit that although God continues to strengthen us and provides the Holy Spirit for comfort, the human (flesh) side of me is week and I miss her and my brother deeply.

With that said, I wanted to take some time today and provide you with the Word of God and ensure His wisdom, clarity, and purpose for you is available for you to obtain. As always, His will be done, whether through me or anyone whom He chooses to provide you with exegetical and doctrinal teaching of the scriptures, in order that you can apply His words to your life.

This past week I was studying both the books of Psalms and Acts. In Psalms, chapters 26 - 48 and in Acts, chapters 22 - 28.

- Let's consider the book of Psalms, according to "www.biblestudy.org", its purpose is:

Overview

Understanding the overall characteristics of this section of the Bible can help us fully appreciate what they say and teach.

1. The purpose of many of the songs is public worship in Israel's temple, although some are more suited for private devotion. They all, however, ultimately lead people to worship the true God.

2. They were a part of Israel's daily life. The Bible records a number of times when the people spontaneously responded to God with a Psalm of praise.

3. They passionately record a person's response to God given their situation and circumstances at the time. Some songs cry out to God during a trial and others seek his intervention in their (and others) affairs. Some focus on God's blessings or curses, while others sing his praises and thank him for what he has done.

Prophecy division

A prophetic theme exists within the five-folder original structure of the Psalms.

1. Section 1 (1 to 41) refers to the Passover, the beginning of Israel as a nation, and the start of the New Testament plan of salvation centering around Jesus

2. Section 2 (42 to 72) shows Israel as a single body in the land of Israel and pictures the creation of the New Testament Church

Additionally, if you are interested, www.biblestudy.org, also identified "Categories of Songs", describing numerous ways in which to divide the book of Psalms other than by section. Please visit the website for further review.

Let's consider the book of Acts:

A. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BOOK OF ACTS The importance of this second of Luke's two-volume work can hardly be over-estimated, for without it we would have no record of the beginnings and development of the early church. Therefore, as Acts furnishes for us aselective record of events that took place during the formative years of the church, it provides us with the historical antecedents of our faith and how that faith came to be embraced from Jerusalem to Rome. It also provides helpful information of the facts surrounding many of the letters of the apostles, which in turn helps us to better understand when they said what they said and why they said it. It was probably written in the early 60's, perhaps from Antioch, Rome or Ephesus.

B. THE PURPOSE OF ACTS As was stated, Acts is the second part of what was originally a two-part, single volume (i.e. Luke-Acts; cf. Acts 1:1). Therefore, it is reasonable to include Luke's purpose for Acts as falling under his purpose for the book of Luke. In Luke 1:4 the author says that he is writing to "most excellent Theophilus" . . . "in order that he might know the certainty of the things he had been taught." Apparently, as Longenecker1 observes, Theophilus "seems to have been a man, who though receptive to the gospel and perhaps even convinced by its claims, had many questions about Christianity as he knew it." Luke wrote to strengthen him in his belief. Given the contents of the book of Acts, Theophilus appears to have had questions about the coming and activity of the Holy Spirit, the ministry of the apostles, Paul and his dealings with the Jerusalem apostles and the advance of Christianity to the Imperial capital.

In a sentence, given the emphasis on the unity of the church (2, 4, 15, 20) and its expansion from Jerusalem to Rome we may say that the Luke's purpose was to demonstrate to Theophilus the sovereign, unified and unmitigated advance of the gospel into all the world, i.e. from Jerusalem to Rome. There are seven "progress reports" on the unity and advance of the church that further confirm this (cf. 2:47; 6:7; 9:31; 12:24; 16:5; 19:20; 28:30, 31). With this knowledge, Theophilus, who was probably a Roman official,2could understand how Christianity reached his city.

The chapter breakdown is below:

E. PAUL IN JERUSALEM (21:15-23:22)

1. Welcomed by Brethren (21:15-26)

2. Arrested by the Jews (21:27-40)

3. Paul's Defense (22:1-21)

4. The Response of the People (22:22-29)

5. Paul Before the Sanhedrin (23:1-10)

6. The Plot Against Paul (23:11-22)

F. PAUL IN CAESAREA (23:23-26:32)

1. Paul Escorted to Caesarea (23:23-35)

2. Paul Before Felix (24:1-21)

3. Paul Imprisoned (24:22-27)

4. Paul Before Festus (25)

5. Paul Before Agrippa (26)

G. PAUL IN ROME (27, 28)

1. The Shipwreck (27)

2. Paul in Malta (28:1-15)

3. Paul in Rome (28:16-31)

I am sure that while reading this information you are wondering how does this apply to your life. Recognizing that we discussed two books covering the Old and New Testament. Also, if you noticed, in Psalms gave bits of wisdom and preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ. While the book of Acts tells of the expansion of the Church and the challenges faced with the work of spreading God’s word.

An example from Psalms 31: Into Your Hand I Commit My Spirit; To the choirmaster.

In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me! Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily!

Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!

For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me;

you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.

I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.

I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction;

you have known the distress of my soul, and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;

you have set my feet in a broad place. Consider your life.

Matthew Henry Commentary: Psalms 31:1

Vs. 1-8. Faith and prayer must go together, for the prayer of faith is the prevailing prayer. David gave up his soul in a special manner to God. And with the words, ver. 5, our Lord Jesus yielded up his last breath on the cross, and made his soul a free-will offering for sin, laying down his life as a ransom. But David is here as a man in distress and trouble. And his great care is about his soul, his spirit, his better part. Many think that while perplexed about their worldly affairs, and their cares multiply, they may be excused if they neglect their souls; but we are the more concerned to look to our souls, that, though the outward man perish, the inward man may suffer no damage. The redemption of the soul is so precious, that it must have ceased for ever, if Christ had not undertaken it. Having relied on God's mercy, he will be glad and rejoice in it. God looks upon our souls, when

we are in trouble, to see whether they are humbled for sin, and made better by the affliction. Every believer will meet with such dangers and deliverances, until he is delivered from death, his last enemy.

In the book of Acts we see Paul going through the process of preparing lay down his life for his faith in Christ. Through the multiple appearances before various kings and governors, he remained steadfast. He was given his task on the "Road to Damascus" he went out to both the Jews an Gentiles and did his best to spread the word everywhere. My question to you is have you been, in a position like David? Have you made the effort to work with the Lord and cleanse your soul? Have you considered searching for mercy and redemption?

I pray that you take time create a relationship with Christ. I pray that you chose Christ today.

History and Life Changing ( Part 1 )

History and Life Changing (Part 1)

Greetings,

I pray that this week's message finds you doing well and blessed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please bear with me as this message will probably be in several parts in oder to complete my discussion with the Lord. Again, if I have not said this before,  or I have, it is worth repeating. The Word of the Lord I share with you is what He has placed on my heart to share. God is highly capable of directly telling you what he needs you to hear, so if you feel the need to research and have a debate on the scriptures provided and the context they were placed in, I am open for discussion. I don't own God’s word,  I merely am doing my part share the knowledge that I have gained through my studies.

I wanted to start this message with a little background and recap of the past several weeks. As I routinely mention in these messages, God and I converse with each other on a daily basis (A relationship is what He desires for us - please read "More Than a Savior, When Jesus Calls You Friend";  by author Robert Crosby). Remember  what was said in John 15:12-16 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you."

I mentioned twice a few weeks ago, that emotionally, it had gotten so bad that I went to Him every few minutes. Not to say that I am out of the woods yet, but, He has been my rock and my foundation. You may or may not be aware, but on June 16, 2015, God called my mother home to be with Him. For anyone or any family, this period is difficult to say the least. This is where His wondrous works come alive; where in the midst of a struggle, pain, or despair, He sends an angel or clears a pathway to remind you of His promise. Hebrews 13:5 - "I will never leave you or forsake you."

It was not until Sunday, June 28, sitting in the home of a relative did I understand what God wanted to share with me. Now, this was not some flashing light (Paul - Road to Damascus - Acts 9:2-3) or vision of angles ascending or decending on a ladder (Jacob - Gen 28:12-15), it was merely God laying out the some historical references to my and our family's humble beginning. For many years I have been in search of my ancestry.  My family on both sides have been blessed with the ability to share even today with family members who are well into their 90's and are full of thier faculties. Listening to the stories and history of the family placed me in a state of awe and left plenty of questions. I learned about some who were slaves and some who were free. But many questions remained.

Please read the scriptures below and see the comments afterwards.

(According to Insight.org)

Book: Zechariah

Author: Grandson of the priest Iddo, Zechariah prophesied to the people of Judah after they returned from their seventy years of exile in Babylon (Zechariah 1:1; Nehemiah 12:1, 4, 16). Zechariah’s grandfather returned from Babylon, his young grandson in tow, with the first group of Israelites allowed back, in 538 BC under the decree of Cyrus, king of Persia. Because of his family lineage, Zechariah was a priest in addition to a prophet. He, therefore, would have had an intimate familiarity with the worship practices of the Jews, even if he had never served in a completed temple. As a “young man” at the time of his first prophecies (Zechariah 2:4), his life more than likely extended into the reign of Xerxes I (485–465 BC), the king best known in the Bible for making Esther the queen of Persia (Esther 1:1).

Purpose: The book of Zechariah contains the clearest and the largest number of messianic (about the Messiah) passages among the Minor Prophets. In that respect, it’s possible to think of the book of Zechariah as a kind of miniature book of Isaiah. Zechariah pictures Christ in both His first coming (Zechariah 9:9) and His second coming (9:10–10:12). Jesus will come, according to Zechariah, as Savior, Judge, and ultimately, as the righteous King ruling His people from Jerusalem (14:8–9).

Chapter 8: 1-8 The Coming Peace and Prosperitty of Zion:

And the word of the Lord of hosts came, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath. Thus says the Lord: I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the holy mountain. Thus says the Lord of hosts: Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of great age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. Thus says the Lord of hosts: If it is marvelous in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my sight, declares the Lord of hosts? Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country, and I will bring them to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in faithfulness and in righteousness.”

Matthew Henry Commentary :

Zechariah

Vs. 1-8. The sins of Zion were her worst enemies. God will take away her sins, and then no other enemies shall hurt her. Those who profess religion must adorn their profession by godliness and honesty. When become a city of truth and a mountain of holiness, Jerusalem is peaceable and prosperous. Verses 4, 5, beautifully describe a state of great outward peace, attended with plenty, temperance, and contentment. The scattered Israelites shall be brought together from all parts. God will never leave nor forsake them in a way of mercy, for this he has promised them; and they shall never leave nor forsake him in a way of duty, as they have promised him. These promises were partly fulfilled in the Jewish church, betwixt the captivity and the time of Christ's coming; and they had fuller accomplishment in the gospel church; but the full import must be as to the future times of the Christian church, or the future restoration of the Jews. With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible; so far are God's thoughts and ways above ours. In the present low state of vital godliness, we can hardly conceive that so complete a change can be made; but a change thus extensive and glorious, can be brought to pass by the almighty power of the new-creating Spirit, in less time than he was pleased to employ in creating the world. Let the hands of all who labor in the cause of the gospel be strong, serving the Lord in true holiness, assured that their labor shall not be in vain.

When you read the above you're probably wondering what did this have to do with my family history or how is this applicable to your life. I pray the following makes sense. - History has been all but removed from the textbooks, lesson plans, and I dare to say the homes of the 21st century.  As a result, it is my belief, not many people have a connection with a family who was raised from slavery (or the 1800s - nonslaves) to 2015 on the strength and power of Christ.

Listening to the stories I learned that my ancestors considered themselves or their Decendants receiving the prosperity of Zion. It was that path unknowingly taught to me and my family members which caused us to search for greatness or to achieve excellence. This does not mean we all got there or that we did not stray away as the Israelites did.  But, today, I can honestly say that looking directly into the eyes of my ancestors those who are still living, seeing the hard work, joy, and love for Christ in their eyes and tell them thank you. In turn to hear Mrs. Lucille, Mr and Mrs Pringle, and Aunt Georgia say to me that I did not let them down and they saw God working through me, gave me peace. I intend Lord willing to add to this next week. We will go into our past, present, and future, even considering where we grew up.

I pray that you chose Christ today and enjoy the benefits of being a child of God. Remember, everyone is not a child of God until they accept His Son. You are part of His creation but not yet heirs.

Romans 8:12-17 Heirs with Christ

So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

A Message about My Mom

Greetings everyone,

I have not written you since May 25th. I have experienced quite a few events since the last message. I pray  that you and your families are doing well and that many of you have made the choice to make Jesus Christ your personal Savior.

Over the last serval weeks I have been studying 2 Chronicles, the book of John,Nehemiah, Ezra, and Acts. I admit that it has been difficult to understand where God wanted me to go when preparing this message.  However,  I believe that for these past few weeks the message I have gotten from 2 Chronicles was two fold. The first explained the lineage of the people of Israel and the promise of Christ descending from King David as it was written in the scriptures. The second was the repetitive sinful behavior of the people of Judah and the surrounding territories. It never seemed to fail that once a particular king took over, he would either "do evil in the eyes of the Lord", or in 2 Chronicles 20:32 ... "did what was right in the sight of the Lord. "

The questions that continued to repeat in my mind dealt with the times we are in today regarding family and how a secular world is against family and the positive effects it has on any given society. How many generations will pass before we recognize that we are repeating what the Israelites did in time past.  At the same time another question was, what will it take for people to see that we are living in an uncertain time.

While preparing this message I allowed procrastination and other issues to prohibit me from my responsibility of preparing a message. Well God has a way of getting your attention and putting you back on track. On June 16, 2015, my mom and dearest friend passed away. She was and is an amazing woman,  mother and wife. As I have been battling the roller coaster of emotions, I have tried my best to speak to the Lord every few minutes requesting strength, clarity, and wisdom. My mother was mother to many,  she had her own style of tough love, she was stubborn, but in my eyes never hesitated to help those in need she cared for.

I looked back and contemplated the words from the scriptures above and questioned where my mom would fit and how did she and my dad raised four children, while supporting thier parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, relatives, and the local North Chicago neighborhood. Although, I was keenly aware of the impact they both had on everyone, it was not until their 50th wedding anniversary,  that I think they were aware of it. Secondly, when my mom took ill earlier this year, once again she was inundated with love from those she affected. As mother's heart began to change, I never pictured that God was putting his plan into action to bring her home. If you knew my mom, not only could you see the change in her, but you could feel it. God's work was in place.  Again, it was not until prayer with my family and discussion with my wife, did we receive this. My prayers were that she got better, take time to see the world and increase her relationships with the people who cared about her.

Having said all this, I am sure many of you are asking did I question God for calling her home at the young age of 72, or you may wonder if I was angry for her home going. Honestly, my issues did not deal with either question. My initial thoughts were of bewilderment, first because I spoke to her on Sunday and spoke to my dad on Monday night, in both cases I received great news of her health increasing.  I told them both how my family and I were looking forward to seeing them in June and July. Although, my mom requested we wait until July.

Secondly, although struck and struggling with pain, here is what came to mind;

Phillipians 1:19-23

Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.

Colossians 3:1-3
Put on a New Heart
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Luke 21:10-19
Jesus Foretells Wars and Persecution:
Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. This will be your opportunity to bear witness. Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. You will be hated by all for my name's sake. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives.

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 8:51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”

Revelations 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Normally,  I would have provided the appropriate Commentary to these scriptures to ensure you fully received the information derived from God's word.  However, in this time I request your forgiveness and ask that you consider searching Matthew Henry's Commentary or one of your choosing to find the information. However, I do hope and pray that you chose Christ today. Tomorrow is not promised to you. Let folks laugh, call you names, etc. Christ has your back.

Make a Decision - Hot or Cold

Greetings everyone,

I pray that you and your family are well.  I also want to thank people like Renita Pickett, Charlie Wells Sr., Abe Wells, John Wells, Jesse Wells, Louis Wells, Welton Dufour, David Enos, my ASAC 4-95 class (David Willis, Tom Romero, LaKeshia Swatrz, Paul Oberle, etc) and  many other service men and women who sacrificed their lives in order for people like me to serve.  This does not mean that they are all deceased, but I think about the hard work my wife and family members and colleagues endured for our ability to worship Christ.  I am eternally grateful.

Over the years I have gained knowledge, discernment, and the ability to acknowledge, my faults, sins and learned the importance of repentance.  I am full of so much joy, emotions and words that I would like to share with you regarding the Word of God.  However, I believe that based on the times, we need to stop sugar coating what's happening around us and accept that the devil is trying his best to move in on God’s territory.

I am sure that today alone, you have witnessed the advance and villainous acts of ISIS, the number of deaths, non-police related, that Baltimore over the weekend,  the actions which occurred in Cleveland, OH, and the weather patterns in and around Texas.  We have to recognize and admit, that although you desire to search for a human answer to these things and you are looking for someone to blame, STOP!  It is time that we take God at His Word and pay attention, humanism is not the answer, neither is any other "ism". These things can not get you to eternal life and they cannot save you from death. "6 Jesus replied, a “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. b No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too. a And from now on you do know him and have seen him.” (NET_LM)"

It is the above verses from John14:6-7, that will separate the "Wheat from the chaff", verses such as these have and will continue to divide man from each other and those who believe in Christ. To the Church of Laodicea, Jesus told John to write the following letter. Please read the scriptures below:

Book: Revelations Chapter 3; According to "Insight for Living.org", Who wrote the book? The author of Revelation mentioned his name, John, four times throughout the book (Revelation 1:1, 4, 9; 22:8). Christians throughout history have given almost unanimous affirmation to the identity of the book’s author as John the apostle, who had been exiled to the island of Patmos by the authorities for preaching the gospel in Asia. Some traditions say that the Romans dropped John into a vat of boiling oil, but when the apostle did not die, they instead banished him to the barren rock of Patmos. The title of the book, Revelation, comes from the Greek word for apocalypse and refers to an unveiling or a disclosure of something as yet unknown. This title is certainly appropriate for the book, a work so interested in making known the events of the future.

Where are we? The apostle John wrote the book of Revelation around the year AD 95 from his exile on the island of Patmos. He addressed his work to seven Asian churches—Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Because John worked in Ephesus for so many of his later years, it would have been natural for him to communicate this vision to the churches under his immediate care and influence. Each of those seven churches received a message directed specifically to them (chapters 2 and 3) before John launched into his account of the future which he received in his vision from God.

Why is Revelation so important? The book of Revelation provides the clearest biblical portrait of the events of the tribulation, dealing with the specifics of that terrible time (chapters 4–18). The tribulation will be a time of judgment, a time when those left on the earth after the rapture will suffer deeply for their nonbelief. John pictured this judgment as a series of twenty-one events—inaugurated by the breaking of seven seals, the blowing of seven trumpets, and the pouring out of seven bowls. This grand judgment on the sinfulness of humanity shows the seriousness with which God views sin—payment will be exacted from those not covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Revelations  3: 14- 22; 14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write the following: “This is the solemn pronouncement of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator of Gods creation:15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot! 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth! 17 Because you say, “I am rich and have acquired great wealth, and need nothing,” but do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked, 18 take my advice and buy gold from me refined by fire so you can become rich! Buy from me white clothing so you can be clothed and your shameful nakedness will not be exposed, and buy eye salve to put on your eyes so you can see! 19 All those I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent! 20 Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me. 21 I will grant the one who conquers permission to sit with me on my throne, just as I too conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Matthew Henry Commentary:  Revelation 3 - Vs. 14- 22. Laodicea was the last and worst of the seven churches of Asia. Here our Lord Jesus styles himself, "The Amen;" one steady and unchangeable in all his purposes and promises. If religion is worth anything, it is worth every thing. Christ expects men should be in earnest. How many professors of gospel doctrine are neither hot nor cold; except as they are indifferent in needful matters, and hot and fiery in disputes about things of lesser moment! A severe punishment is threatened. They would give a false opinion of Christianity, as if it were an unholy religion; while others would conclude it could afford no real satisfaction, otherwise its professors would not have been heartless in it, or so ready to seek pleasure or happiness from the world. One cause of this indifference and inconsistency in religion is, self- conceit and self- delusion; "Because thou sayest." What a difference between their thoughts of themselves, and the thoughts Christ had of them! How careful should we be not to cheat our owns souls! There are many in hell, who once thought themselves far in the way to heaven. Let us beg of God that we may not be left to flatter and deceive ourselves. Professors grow proud, as they become carnal and formal. Their state was wretched in itself. They were poor; really poor, when they said and thought they were rich. They could not see their state, nor their way, nor their danger, yet they thought they saw it. They had not the garment of justification, nor sanctification:they were exposed to sin and shame; their rags that would defile them. They were naked, without house or harbor, for they were without God, in whom alone the soul of man can find rest and safety. Good counsel was given by Christ to this sinful people. Happy those who take his counsel, for all others must perish in their sins. Christ lets them know where they might have true riches, and how they might have them. Some things must be parted with, but nothing valuable; and it is only to make room for receiving true riches. Part with sin and self- confidence, that you may be filled with his hidden treasure. They must receive from Christ the white raiment he purchased and provided for them; his own imputed righteousness for justification, and the garments of holiness and sanctification. Let them give themselves up to his word and Spirit, and their eyes shall be opened to see their way and their end. Let us examine ourselves by the rule of his word, and pray earnestly for the teaching of his Holy Spirit, to take away our pride, prejudices, and worldly lusts. Sinners ought to take the rebukes of God's word and rod, as tokens of his love to their souls. Christ stood without; knocking, by the dealings of his providence, the warnings and teaching of his word, and the influences of his Spirit. Christ still graciously, by his word and Spirit, comes to the door of the hearts of sinners. Those who open to him shall enjoy his presence. If what he finds would make but a poor feast, what he brings will supply a rich one. He will give fresh supplies of graces and comforts. In the conclusion is a promise to the overcoming believer. Christ himself had temptations and conflicts; he overcame them all, and was more than a conqueror. Those made like to Christ in his trials, shall be made like to him in glory. All is closed with the general demand of attention. And these counsels, while suited to the churches to which they were addressed, are deeply interesting to all men.

Family, we have some choices to make.People from both sides, conservative and liberal will have you believe that political correctness and tolerance is the answer, some would also have you believe that there is no wrong or wright. They are concerned about feelings and that people should have the right to do whatever they want and love whoever they want. This is great as long as no one gets hurt.  Freedom is more important than a relationship with Christ.  I pray that you chose Christ. I want to leave this discussion open and let the Word of God linger with you. I pray that one day we can start a dialogue and face the truth.

Are we doing are part?

Greetings family,
Today/Tonight/Tomorrow or whenever you get this message, I am truly excited, honored and blessed for the past two weeks God has allowed me to experience.   I am not trying to bragg by any means, but God is awesome! Beginning with Mother's Day, as some of you may have seen my comments on my mom and my wife; I could not have asked for a better gift.  To be able to begin that day with a sermon on the level of emphasis God places on mother's,  grandmother and great grandmother's.  Our Pastor Lon Solomon, from McLean Bible Church gave an awesome sermon, which I summarized below:

In Phillipians 2:19-22, he spoke on Timothy's character.  He went on to explain how 2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15 - Showed how his direct influence derived from grandmother Lois and mother Eunice, who helped Timothy in Godly development.  Furthermore,  Pastor Lon stated Mother's must make a spiritual impact on their children and those they come in contact with . He followed with four key things mothers must do:

1. Cultivate a child's spiritual life - Isaiah 55:11, Psalm 119:9, 11 (Awana Programs)

2. Place children squarely in God's path

3. Be the most Christ like example you can be - 1Corinthians 11:1 Be committed in your faith

4. Be a prayer warrior James 5:16b - 18; Power of prayer is never greater than when a mother is praying for her children; Acts 6:4 - Apostles gave themselves to prayer.

My week continued with on Monday, May 11, I attended the  2015 RISE Christian Police Conference, in Haymarket, VA, in honor of 2015 Police Week. http://www.virginiaspositivehits.org/events/2015-national-police-week-rise-christian-police-conference/ (Event has passed - background)

I spent a full day of awesome fellowship and praise worship, with a host of brothers and sisters in Christ, who devote their lives everyday to Serve and Protect. With Christ as their priority,  it was clear to see that Christ was in the midst of the event.  I had never experienced something that amazing amidst my fellow colleagues. In our current society, it is truly difficult to share Christ with others, not only with the public, but your co-workers. Many agencies and departments, have all but outlawed public display of Christianity,  but have made it their cause to ensure LGTB month is honored along side, Black and Hispanic American History month. Somehow sexual orientation and political correctness has become the flavor of the month.

Anyway, I learned that when in the midst of chaos, the devil finds a way to distract everyone.  Who knew that God's grace would have spread to such a great group of people.  Through these people and this event, we had a chance to hear the Word, and understand that each of us had a purpose. Not only to do our jobs as members of the law enforcement community, but to lead our families, co-workers, and those we come in contact with to Christ. We learned how to ask Christ for the ability to spot an opportunity to share and spread the Gospel. We learned that being a good LEO, doesn’t guarantee one a position in heaven.

Specifically we shared a prayer not only for the public servants of cities like, Baltimore,  Chicago, New York, and Ferguson, but we prayed for the citizens of these cities.  What we truly learned was that in spite of the media hype, social media marketing, and lack of knowledge on the part of the everyday citizens; the problem is and has not been race, sex, or political. The problem is sin, the lack of a relationship with Christ and the lack of families and moral development.

Finally, the final blessing I wanted to share, was during these last few days while dealing with a bout of the flu,  my wife and I experienced two wonderful films called "The Ecounter". These are two films, describing different encounters, where several strangers end up together meeting Jesus Christ.   I am not going to spoil it for you,  but I guarantee that they were two awesome films.

I am sure you are wondering where this is going and how God’s message fits the above story line. What I learned in each of these events was the importance of placing Christ first in your family and that without Him history has shown that societies have fallen and the people have suffered. As example consider the following (Due to the length of these chapters I won't list them in their entirety):

Book: 2 Kings
Verses: Chapter 24 - 25
Author:The Book of 2 Kings does not name its author. The tradition is that the prophet Jeremiah was the author of both 1 and 2 Kings.
Date of Writing:The Book of 2 Kings, along with 1 Kings, was likely written between 560 and 540 B.C.
Purpose of Writing:The Book of 2 Kings is a sequel to the Book of 1 Kings. It continues the story of the kings over the divided kingdom (Israel and Judah.) The Book of 2 Kings concludes with the final overthrow and deportation of the people of Israel and Judah to Assyria and Babylon, respectively.
Key Verses:2 Kings 17:7-8: "All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods and followed the practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced."

Jehoiakims Reign over Judah
1 During Jehoiakims reign, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked. Jehoiakim was his subject for three years, but then he rebelled against him. 2 The Lord sent against him Babylonian, Syrian, Moabite, and Ammonite raiding bands; he sent them to destroy Judah, as he had warned he would do through his servants the prophets. 3 Just as the Lord had announced, he rejected Judah because of all the sins which Manasseh had committed. 4 Because he killed innocent people and stained Jerusalem with their blood, the Lord was unwilling to forgive them. 5 The rest of the events of Jehoiakims reign and all his accomplishments, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah. 6 He passed away and his son Jehoiachin replaced him as king. 7 The king of Egypt did not march out from his land again, for the king of Babylon conquered all the territory that the king of Egypt had formerly controlled between the Brook of Egypt and the Euphrates River.

Jehoiachins Reign over Judah
8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan, from Jerusalem. 9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord as his ancestors had done.

Matthew Henry Commentary: 2 Kings 24: Vs. 1- 7. If Jehoiakim had served the Lord, he had not been servant to Nebuchadnezzar. If he had been content with his servitude, and true to his word, his condition had been no worse; but, rebelling against Babylon, he plunged himself into more trouble. See what need nations have to lament the sins of their fathers, lest they smart for them. Threatenings will be fulfilled as certainly as promises, if the sinner's repentance prevent not. Vs. 8- 20. Jehoiachin reigned but three months, yet long enough to show that he justly smarted for his fathers 'sins, for he trod in their steps. His uncle was entrusted with the government. This Zedekiah was the last of the kings of Judah. Though the judgments of God upon the three kings before him might have warned him, he did that which was evil, like them. When those entrusted with the counsels of a nation act unwisely, and against their true interest, we ought to notice the displeasure of God in it. It is for the sins of a people that God hides from them the things that belong to the public peace. And in fulfilling the secret purposes of his justice, the Lord needs only leave men to the blindness of their own minds, or to the lusts of their own hearts. The gradual approach of Divine judgments affords sinners space for repentance, and believers leisure to prepare for meeting the calamity, while it shows the obstinacy of those who will not forsake their sins.

There are several ways we could approach theses scriptures, from parallels to the current state of the Middle East, the current economic times in Africa, or the current social decay of America. However, I mainly want to focus on the human race as a whole.  For centuries we have encountered one failure after another when it comes to maintaining a stable and prosperous society. Since the "Fall of Man", we have been in a rut.  Many people disagree with scripture and they feel the Bible is to rigid and has no room for tolerance. I believe tolerance is the wrong word. Based on my understanding of the Word, the Bible emphasizes love, forgiveness, turning away from sin, repentance, Christ's sacrifice on the cross, God’s mercy, and so much more.  But, tolerance is not one of them, at least in the worldly sense. This behavior is not new, we continue to repeat our behavior and God is so tired of our mess. If you desire to have a changed life and eternal life with joy, you must accept Christ as your personal Savior.  You will have to recognize that people will scoff at you for your decision and persecution is automatically included.  But know that you will be changed and your life will be guided by someone who loves you dearly.

Our society has gone through a series of changes. But, if you consider each culture and compare it to the Israelites of the Old Testament. We continue to repeat the same sinful patterns. Even today, we have a vast majority of people who idolize one thing or another, many refuse to believe in God, many boldly express their hatred of God and refusal to believe Christ rose from the dead.  Finally, although we have freewill, we have taken it to a degree that is beyond comprehension.  We have no respect for authority and education is not part of the planet's future. We must place Christ first,  we must acknowledge His grace and mercy.

What's in a Name?

Greetings everyone,

I hope this as past messages, finds you, your family, and friends doing well.

This message is a doosie!   Last night my family and I spent time together and went to see a movie. Upon departing the movie, we held and intriguing conversation.  I won’t provide you with the name of the film.

The discussion surrounded several of the statements in the movie, which appeared to have Biblical reference.  Specifically, the statement that struck my wife and I, was when one of the characters was asked to identify himself, the character began with who he was not. He then stated the following, “I am”… “I am, I am.”

Obviously, that struck my wife and I as odd.  Recognizing it was a movie, we considered as part of Hollywood’s (Satan), continued plan to lessen or minimize the power of God.  No, I know what some of you maybe thinking; we are reading too much into this.  Here is where the story got interesting.  Our youngest son, who is very intelligent and has some basic to intermediate knowledge of Biblical doctrine, totally disagreed with us.

Our son also thought we were totally reaching and felt that at no way did the statement or the movie make any attempt to demoralize Christianity (Which we never thought or stated).  He stated that if it had an affect on anyone, it was because his or her faith was weak. He did not believe that anyone cared about what was said.  Mainly because in the comic book (many years ago), it was already said and people going to the movie new what to expect.

Before I continue, please see the scriptures and commentary below.  I will make additional comments there after and you can comment as you please.

Book:    Exodus

Author:  According to Insight.org, “As with Genesis, early Jewish traditions name Moses as the most likely and best qualified person to have authored Exodus. This theory is supported by a number of factors. Moses’s unique education in the royal courts of Egypt certainly provided him the opportunity and ability to pen these works (Acts 7:22).”

Time:     According to Insight.org, “The book covers a period of approximately eighty years, from shortly before Moses’s birth (c. 1526 BC) to the events that occurred at Mount Sinai in 1446 BC.”

Purpose:  According to Insight.org, “The title “Exodus” comes from the Septuagint, which derived it from the primary event found in the book, the deliverance from slavery and “exodus” or departure of the Israelite nation out of Egypt by the hand of Yahweh, the God of their forefathers.”

“In Exodus we witness God beginning to fulfill His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Though the children of Israel were enslaved in a foreign land, God miraculously and dramatically delivered them to freedom. He then established Israel as a theocratic nation under His covenant with Moses on Mount Sinai. The ten plagues, the Passover, the parting of the Red Sea, the fearsome majesty of God’s presence at Mount Sinai, the giving of the Ten Commandments, the building of the tabernacle . . . these events from Exodus are foundational to the Jewish faith. And they provide crucial background context to help future readers of Scripture understand the entire Bible’s message of redemption. The frequency of references to Exodus by various biblical writers, and even Jesus’s own words, testify to its importance.”

Exodus 3: 11-15;

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

12 So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”

14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 1

15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

Matthew Henry Commentary – Exodus 3:11-15 - 2. He desires instructions what answer to give them: “What shall I say to them? What name shall I vouch to them for the proof of my authority? I must have something great and extraordinary to say to them; what must it be? If I must go, let me have full instructions, that I may not run in vain.” Note, (1.) It highly concerns those who speak to people in the name of God to be well prepared beforehand. (2.) Those who would know what to say must go to God, to the word of his grace and to the throne of his grace, for instructions, Ezek. 2:7; 3:4, 10, 17. (3.) Whenever we have any thing to do with God, it is desirable to know, and our duty to consider, what is his name.

IV. God readily gives him full instructions in this matter. Two names God would now be known by:—

1. A name that denotes what he is in himself (Exod. 3:14): I am that I am. This explains his name Jehovah, and signifies, (1.) That he is self-existent; he has his being of himself, and has no dependence upon any other: the greatest and best man in the world must say, By the grace of God I am what I am; but God says absolutely—and it is more than any creature, man or angel, can say—I am that I am. Being self-existent, he cannot but be self-sufficient, and therefore all-sufficient, and the inexhaustible fountain of being and bliss. (2.) That he is eternal and unchangeable, and always the same, yesterday, to-day, and for ever; he will be what he will be and what he is; see Rev 1:8.

Three other verses came up when I began researching this issue:

- John 14:6 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

- John 15:5 (NKJV) “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

- John 8:59 (NKJV) Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

As I stated this issue became intriguing.  As our son hammered home his side of the argument, my wife and I tried to explain to him how Satan works.  We went on to explain that direct evil does not work on everyone.  Satan figured out long ago that subtlety was the best way to separate or distract man’s relationship with God.  We went on to explain how since the beginning of time, Satan has been able to place a small sliver in society to use tolerance and acceptance to destroy a society.  On a daily basis, Hollywood, television, media, social media, etc., pushes through every medium possible, that we should be more accepting.  Everything that was once considered immoral or illegal is okay.  It’s those crazy religious people who are wrong.  Everyone should just coexist.  Fortunately for us we have Jesus Christ on our side.

Well the discussion went into overtime when I went to Exodus.  As we tried to explain that with a stronger relationship comes wisdom and discernment.  In the past we too would have not caught on to the statement and went about our ways.  He still was not buying our argument.  My wife then used the recent movie Noah (Paramount Picture 2014) and Exodus as an example of how Hollywood and Satan uses Biblical stories to move you further away from God.  If you recall the director of Noah, Darren Aronofsky an acknowledged atheist stated in an April 2014 interview in the Telegraph, a UK newspaper or magazine, “The problems arose because the studio were trying to serve religious literalists,” says Aronofsky. “Because there is a big part of the population in America who don’t want anything to contradict their view of the Bible, and are never going to be open to this type of interpretation.”

For him, the Noah story is something metaphorical and mythic, a beautiful fiction that points towards truth, rather than simply reporting it.

“To argue about it as if it was a historical event is ridiculous. Which, by the way, goes for atheists, too – the people who do the math and say, ‘Well, all of the animal kingdom couldn’t fit into one boat.’ The whole conversation is ridiculous.”

Additionally, Aronofsky made every effort to ensure the name of God was never mentioned in the film.  Our son then acknowledged that this movie was not scripturally correct as they spoke about at his (former) Christian school.  He went on to repeat that anyone with a strong relationship with Christ would have easily figured this out.  But we explained that this was the point.  The uninformed Christian, especially non-Christian would even catch such blatant, but hidden agenda.  Again, this is how Satan strikes.

My son went on to state that he did not see Satan in this issue.  Additionally, he felt that free will and sin was a product of man.  He was under the impression that sin would have been around whether Satan was or not.  He used the behavior of man during prohibition (1920s), the Awakening (end of 19th Century), and even the Puritans (17th Century).  He expressed how man has always continued his unethical and sinful ways. Even more, he believed that man created sin from his wrong choice to disobey God in the Garden of Eden.  We went on to explain that sin is being disobedient to God’s will; this activity began with Satan and his cohort’s fall from grace (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12-18).  Then Satan took his sinful nature and shared it with Eve in a manner that was so cunning, that to her it had to be ok (Genesis 3:1-5).  She too saw no harm in being equal to God.

In the end I left this with our son. In your time, things may seem fine.  However, as you grow closer to God (if you choose to do so), the scales on your eyes will be removed (Isaiah 44:18; Acts 9:18).  This may be the same for you.  You don’t have to take my word for it.  The world today is changing.  In our time on earth more and more things are becoming acceptable and there is less emphasis on Christian, political, parental, social, and personal responsibility. Everything has morphed to the concerns of ones feelings and less logic.  Christ will return and I can only pray that you are ready, willing, and able to take up your cross in His Holy Name.

The Effects of a Society Wanting Change in the Wrong Direction

Greetings everyone,

I pray that you and your family are doing well and that this week's message provides you an opportunity to spend quality time with Christ and consider the effects these words may have on you, a member of your family, or someone you know.

Late Saturday night, I watched the movie "Malcom X".  As I watched the movie I began to consider the issues that our society faced during the late 50s through the 60s.  The same cycles of sin existed then and continue today.  I am not focusing on the issues of race and color. My aim is to address the topics Malcolm spoke on regarding the lack of proper parenting, the lack of responsibility, the weakness in people who indulge in drugs, sexual immorality, etc. Although, he emphasized how Islam played a major role and was the only way for a society or community to rid itself of such actions, I want to share with you that there is a way out.  I just would like to share with you that Christ, who still lives does provide a way for change.  I continue acknowledge that in no way am I innocent of my past mistakes and experiences. I merely except that as I have accepted Christ as my personal Savior, that I had no choice but to change my behavior and my life.

On 4-12-12, USA Today, posted an article stating that "A growing number of firstborns in the USA have unmarried parents, reflecting dramatic increases since 2002 in births to cohabiting women, according to government figures out today. The percentage of first births to women living with a male partner jumped from 12% in 2002 to 22% in 2006-10 — an 83% increase. The percentage of cohabiting new fathers rose from 18% to 25%. The analysis, by the National Center for Health Statistics, is based on data collected from 2006 to 2010... The percentage of first births to cohabiting women tripled from 9% in 1985 to 27% for births from 2003 to 2010."

On 3-12-15, The Wall Street Journal posted an article titled, "Sociologists fret that more children risk losing out on the economic benefits of living in married households" Please see below:

== BIRTHS IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS ==

1. Earnings of less-educated American men have fallen in recent decades, while education levels have risen among women, making marriage less attractive economically for women, research shows.

2. And while the vast majority of Americans say they eventually want to marry, according to a recent Gallup survey, many are finding the financial security they perceive as a prerequisite elusive.

3. Dawnyea Felton and Robert Cook, who will have their first child this year, are among the growing demographic choosing to cohabit but not planning to marry until they are financially and emotionally secure.

4. The couple lives in Baltimore with Ms. Felton’s mother and older sister. Ms. Felton, 19, plans to attend community college in the fall and become a nurse, after giving birth this summer. Robert, who is 20 years old, recently got a job at a nursing home where he earns $10 an hour.

5. While the couple’s pregnancy wasn’t planned, their families have been supportive, Ms. Felton said. “Right now, our main focus is getting established, getting our foot in the door,” she said.

6. In addition to young couples like Ms. Felton and Mr. Cook, a growing number of more educated middle- or lower-income Americans are choosing to become parents outside of marriage.

7. “The increases in nonmarital childbearing have been most pronounced for those having some college experience,” said Wendy Manning, a sociologist at Bowling Green State University, but the trend has “increased substantially between 1980 and 2013 regardless of maternal education.”

8. Over a quarter of births to women under 40 with some college were to cohabiting mothers in 2009-13, up from just 15% in 1997 to 2001, Ms. Manning’s analysis of CDC data shows.

9. It’s mostly white and Hispanic couples who are driving the trend, not black couples, experts say. Since the 1990s, the majority of unmarried births to white and Hispanic mothers have occurred in cohabiting unions, Ms. Manning finds, while the majority of nonmarital births to black mothers were to single mothers.

10. Affluent, highly educated Americans still largely marry before starting families, and single mothers remain more common among the poor.

Scripture teaches us that not only did such similar activity occur in biblical times, but it  was to continue and get worse until Christ's return.  I have found a  series of scriptures from the New and Old Testament that point to our human behavior. Please note that there are no time limits on these words. God's word never changes and we must acknowledge that we should not desire for His Word to change with the times.

Deuteronomy 24:16 ESV /“Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin.

Matthew 19:6 ESV / So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

1 Timothy 5:8 ESV / But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Romans 12:1-2 ESV / I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

1 Corinthians 6:18 ESV / Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

1 Corinthians 7:1-8 ESV / Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. ...

Genesis 2:24 ESV / Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Revelation 21:8 ESV / But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Hebrews 12:8 ESV / If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

1 Corinthians 7:15 ESV / But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace.

Ephesians 2:8 ESV / For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV / Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come

What do these words mean to you?  Does God's word have any effect on your life and the daily choices you make?  Whose fault is it, if you choose not to be obedient, yours, the government, or was it because of racism?

Taking Responsibility and What The Bible Teaches

Greetings,

I pray this message finds you and your family well and that God has blessed you.  This message is somewhat mixed.  Mixed because I as usual will provide you with the Scriptures as God provided them to me to write about,  but also thoughts I have wrestled with dealing with society, family issues, and most of all,  myself.

I have struggled with maintaining the fervor in preparing these messages, and with who will be the recipient of them.  Also, I struggled with should I find other avenues and become more aggressive in using social media, technology and other methods to share this information. Granted, initially I stated that I desired to enhance the level of biblical doctrine and knowledge through exegetical studies for minorities, due to the historical patterns of preachers and churches capitalizing on the emotions of everyday people in need. But, I am keenly aware that God is larger than that and obedience must be first.

Another struggle has been ensuring that I stick with the foundation of God's word and my desire to speak on the constant changing issues I believe are a problem. (Basically,  the problem is learning how to remove me from the picture.)  With so much happening in the world today, I find it difficult to concentrate and know where to begin. Let's consider social issues such as the recent increase on media focus on police shootings.  While I agree and recognize that the loss of life is tragic, I also recognized the perception of racial undertones these incidents have shown.  What is odd to me is that while we emphasize the excessive force or possible violations of civil rights, where is the emphasis and emotional distress on personal responsibility?  No media interviews, television show, or social media outcry has emphasized on the question, how did this individual come in contact with the police or government official.  No one has asked, is it true, the lives and choices we make result in unforseen consequences.

Secondly, let's consider the international issues that are effecting the world. Issues include financial corruption in South America, ebola in Africa, ISIS in Iraq and Syria, Christian persecution both overseas and at home.  How do we deal with this?  Moreover, how do we get our friends, neighbors and loved ones,  to see past ourselves and this everyday need for material idols and the here and now.

I find that sometimes just when I run out of words or can't seem to find the best way to bring God's word to you through the point I'm trying to make,  I pray.  Sometimes within moments I get a clear picture of His desires.  While searching for scriptures to tell the story,  I found on "Got Questions.Org", the following answer to the question of personal responsibility. I copied excerpts from the message and I asked that you review the information and consider making comments of your own.

According to "Got Questions.Org"; "We learn that responsibility has its rewards—and irresponsibility has other, less-than-desirable effects. In many ways, the difference between a child and a man is his willingness to take personal responsibility for his actions. As Paul says, “When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me” (1 Corinthians 13:11)."

"The Bible teaches the concept of personal responsibility: “The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them” (Ezekiel 18:20). Personal responsibility is closely related to the law of sowing and reaping(Galatians 6:7–8). “Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them! They will be paid back for what their hands have done” (Isaiah 3:10–11)."

"The commands of the Old Testament were attached to blessings for obedience and penalties for disobedience; in other words, the Law emphasized the responsibility of individuals to respond in morally appropriate ways to God’s revealed truth. God clearly defined right and wrong, and His people were expected to do what was right. This has been the case ever since the Garden of Eden, when Adam was given a specific command and expected to obey it. Later, Adam’s son Cain was warned by God that he would be held personally responsible for his actions (Genesis 4:7)."

"The Bible expects us to take personal responsibility in all areas of life. Able-bodied people should work for their food. “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Men are to take responsibility for providing for their households (1 Timothy 5:8)."

"At times, people try to avoid personal responsibility, usually through blame-shifting. Adam tried to blame Eve for his sin (Genesis 3:12). Cain tried to dodge responsibility (Genesis 4:9). Pilate attempted to absolve his guilt in the matter of the crucifixion of Christ: “‘I am innocent of this man’s blood,’ he said. ‘It is your responsibility!’” (Matthew 27:24). Ultimately, attempts to pass the buck are futile. “You may be sure that your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23)."

"Each one of us has the personal responsibility to “repent and believe the good news” (Mark 1:15) and then to glorify the Lord with good works (Ephesians 2:10). “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). Those who choose to reject the truth of God “are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). We cannot evade our personal responsibility to exercise faith in Christ."

Prayerfully, we all consider the consequences of being apart from God.  I humbly ask that if you have not accepted Christ as your personal Savior,  that you reconsider. No one knows what tomorrow may bring, but with Christ you have assurance that you will live forever.

May God richly bless you.
